Double Homicide Update

It’s been almost one month since the double homicide that left 24-year-old George Dillard and 25-year-old Lakita Hicks dead and her 5-year-old son parent-less.

Lakita Hicks Uncle, Eric Terry Sr., said the death of his niece has affected him and his family for the rest of their lives.

Terry said the Chattanooga community has been generous to them and Hicks 5-year-old son who witnessed his mother and her boyfriend gunned down.

“With the help of the city of Chattanooga we’ve had some donations that have been presented to my nephew. Overwhelming outpouring when it came to helping with GoFundMe page.”

A trust has been set up for Hick’s son to help him with anything he may need.

The GoFundMe page raised a little over $5800 dollars.

All the money raised was used in the burial of Hicks.

As donations poured in, it was soon the family heard that there were other people collecting money in honor of Hicks.

“Jars were found around the city with my niece’s picture on it collecting money.”

But the family never received any of that money.

“To capitalize on someone else’s loss and to play of the sympathy of other people was just kind of depressing. That just kind of added to the pain.”

Terry said the police haven’t received many tips.

“We have people that are willing to come to family members to share what they know, but they’re not willing to talk to the police.”

News 12 reached out to Chattanooga Police Department spokesman Kyle Miller who said this.

“Even after the release of the audio by the District Attorney’s Office, the Chattanooga Police Department has received only one community contact/lead concerning the murders of Hicks and Dillard. All other leads were investigative leads made by CPD Law Enforcement. Investigators are continuing to follow all available actionable leads. ”

As the investigation continues Hicks’ son is coping with the loss.

He recently returned to school and is receiving counseling.

“He’s very open with. he is in considering. At the end of the day he’s a 5-year-old.Honestly I believe he’s adapting a little better than some of the adults in our family.”

Since he is the only witness he will have to help ID the suspect.

“To see if he can recognize anyone who he might have seen that night. It has to be something that’s got to come from him to help…to help catch whoever this was.”
