Katie Boyd Britt make third candidate to replace Sen. Richard Shelby

MONTGOMERY, Alabama (WDEF) – She hasn’t gone public yet, but Katie Boyd Britt has filed the paperwork to run for the U.S. Senate seat open in Alabama next year.

She filed with the Federal Election Commission on Friday.

That was the same day she resigned from her job leading the Business Council of Alabama.

Boyd Britt is a Republican who once served as chief of staff for Senator Richard Shelby.

She started working for him as a deputy press secretary, and became his regular press secretary at just the age of 23.

She would be running to replace him after he announced earlier this year that he would not seek re-election in 2022.

The Republican primary could be crowded.

Congressman Mo Brooks and former Trump ambassador to Slovenia, Lynda Blanchard, have already jumped in the race.
