Girl’s brave actions lead to arrests of suspected burglars

FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. (WSB-TV) — A teenager described to Channel 2 Action News the terrifying moment after a group of would-be burglars kicked down her front door while she was home sick from school.

The teen’s brave actions helped bust a burglary ring.

“My heart was beating fast. I was scared,” said Jasmine White,15.

White told Channel 2’s Tom Regan she’d just gotten out of bed when she heard some crashing noises at the front of her home.

“They busted through the front door, I heard the glass break,” White said.

Investigators say six teen burglars, one under age 17, forced their way in and they were armed.

“We had multiple perpetrators enter the house ransack the house,” said Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb.

Jasmine told Regan she jumped behind her bed.

“I immediately got on the floor and I called my step dad,” White said.

She told Regan she could hear the intruders going through drawers and shelves, and at one frightening moment, moving in her direction.

“I heard footsteps come down the hall by my room I was praying like, I hope they don’t come into my room and know I’m there,” White said.

Burglars grabbed valuables and took off.

After sheriff’s deputies answered the 911 call and left, the intruders had the nerve to come back to the home and steal more stuff Jasmine hid again.

“I heard them again, and I got on the floor and the second time I called 911,” White said. “I was like I’m not going out there.”

“If she would have come out of her room and they saw her, anything could happened,” White’s mother Tiffany White said.

Jasmine’s mom and step dad say they are proud of how she kept her cool in a dangerous situation.

“I’m going to be with them to let them know I’m standing firm for what they did and they need to face the consequences,” said Tiffany White.

Tiffany White said one of teen suspects is a former friend of her son that scoped out the inside of her home.

The sheriff says the teen could also face charges in Peachtree City.
