Crossville supervisor indicted for sexually assaulting women under his supervision

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (WDEF) – A former Cumberland County Waste Director has been indicted on sexual assault charges against women under his supervision.

59 year old Michael Harvel was arrested at his home this morning by the FBI.

He faces federal indictments in Nashville for civil rights violations.

The indictment says Harvel supervised dozens of women doing community service time or as paid employees.

He is accused of sexually assaulting seven women over a three year period.

The allegations include kidnapping, rape and sexual assaults.

The indictment says in one case, he locked a woman in a room at the county facility, pushed her on a table and sexually assaulted her.

In another case, he is accused of pushing a woman on a desk in a dark office and raping her.  And then taking the same woman to an isolated landfill and raping her again.

The other incidents involved fondling women against their will.

If convicted of the federal charges, Harvel could get a life sentence.
