The Hamilton County Board of Education will meet today for The Budget Work Session at 4:00 p.m. and the Quarterly Session is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
This will be the first time board members meet since School Superintendent Rick Smith announced his retirement on Monday.
A proposal to place Republican Gov. Bill Haslam’s Insure Tennessee proposal before the voters in November has been defeated in a House subcommittee.
The House Insurance and Banking Subcommittee voted Wednesday to study the bill after the General Assembly adjourns.
Haslam last year proposed extending health coverage to 280,000 low-income Tennesseans.
A bill that would have frozen tuition rates at Tennessee’s public colleges and universities appears to be dead after failing to make it through a House subcommittee.
Under the bill, students would pay the same tuition for all four years in college and any major tuition hike would have to gain unanimous approval by the school’s government board.
