Rossville cleanup means no fishing and no ducks at duck pond
ROSSVILLE, Georgia (WDEF) – The duck ponds in Rossville may have to get a new name.
The city is cleaning up the pond recreational area off McFarland Avenue.
And as a result, they are banning fishing in the ponds and removing the ducks.
The cleanup involves getting rid of filamentous algae and American elodea in the water.
A certified aquatic management company will use herbicides, dyes and grass carp to do the trick.
You face $141 fine if you are caught fishing for the carp.
The ducks will be moved until the algae is eradicated.
The city plans to return some of them, eventually.
“I realize this may seem strict to some but the ponds are an asset to the City of Rossville” says Mark Harris with the city.
“We want to clean them up and make it a family friendly area.”
