300 sex offenders checked as part of “Operation: Clean Sweep”
Knoxville (WDEF) – This weekend, the Tennessee Department of Correction launched Operation: Clean Sweep in an attempt to enhancing the safety of Tennessee.
The operation targeted sex offenders in the east region of the state ensuring those offenders were compliant and adhering to the law.
TDOC Probation Parole Officers, along with TDOC Apprehension Enforcement Special Agents, made unannounced home checks on over 300 offenders all across east Tennessee, including the Knoxville, Chattanooga and Tri-Cities areas.
“Operation Clean Sweep is part of our agency’s mission to enhance public safety through effective community supervision,” said Commissioner Derrick Schofield. “Offenders under TDOC supervision should take notice that we will not compromise public safety and if they are found to be non-compliant, swift action will be taken.”
A total of 7 arrests were made and over 50 violations were issued during the course of the three day operation, which began Thursday and culminated Saturday Night.
