Ex-Prattville PD officer faces truancy charge

PRATTVILLE, Ala. (AP) – A former Prattville Police Department officer has been arrested after he allegedly didn’t make his children attend school.

Autauga County Sheriff Joe Sedinger tells the Montgomery Advertiser that 50-year-old Leon Todd Townson turned himself in on May 12 at the Autauga Metro Jail. He faces one count of contributing to the delinquency of a child.

In an unrelated case, Townson also faces several charges including insurance fraud, theft and burglary.

A copy of Townson’s arrest warrant shows one child was absent 66 out of 155 school days the 2016 school year. Another child was absent 59 out of 155 days.

Townson resigned from the Prattville Police Department in 2005 after attaining the rank of lieutenant. He resigned ahead of pleading guilty to a charge of misappropriation of property.

It’s unclear if Townson has an attorney.
