Vols Strength Coach Out After Philosophical Differences With Butch Jones
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Dave Lawson is no longer part of Tennessee’s athletic department after serving as the football team’s director of strength and conditioning for the last three seasons.
Tennessee athletic department spokesman Ryan Robinson confirmed that Friday was Lawson’s last day at the school. Robinson said the exit resulted from philosophical differences with Tennessee coach Butch Jones.
At the start of spring practice, Jones said Mike Szerszen had taken over more of the day-to-day conditioning responsibilities with the football program but that Lawson remained on staff and was “in charge of our entire strength and conditioning program as an athletic department.”
Lawson worked with Jones at Central Michigan (2007-09) and Cincinnati (2010-12) before following him to Tennessee.
