Person in stolen car draws weapon on Hamilton Co. Sheriff’s deputy
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Attempting to stop a stolen vehicle in Chattanooga leads to a vehicle pursuit and someone drawing a weapon on a Hamilton County Sheriff’s Deputy.
It started when Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Deputies spotted a stolen vehicle driving on Bonny Oaks Drive Thursday evening.
Deputies attempted to slowly route additional patrol units behind the vehicle.
That was in order to make a safe felony stop on Highway 153, near the Shallowford Road exit.
Once the deputies were in place, they attempted to stop the vehicle.
The driver refused to stop and a pursuit ensued which would eventually lead deputies as far as Whitfield County, Georgia.
As deputies pursued the vehicle into Georgia, other law enforcement agencies joined in including Georgia State Patrol.
Georgia State Troopers tried to use spike strips to stop the car without success.
Law enforcement finally pit maneuvered the vehicle, causing it to wreck.
Both occupants fled from law enforcement after the wreck.
Hamilton County Sheriff’s Deputies say the driver was identified as Michael Stroud.
They say he ran towards a hilly area on the side of the freeway where he was tackled by law enforcement while attempting to pull a weapon, this is, a firearm from his beltline.
Stroud was quickly and safely apprehended by HCSO deputies without instance, despite attempting to draw a weapon on law enforcement personnel.
The occupant was a 17 year old female.
She ran from the car but was caught in the freeway medium.
They were both taken into custody.
Stroud faces 19 charges just in Whitfield County, including the stolen car, reckless driving and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The teenager faces three charges on the stolen car, obstruction of law enforcement and giving a false name.
