Good Samaritan Falls off Roof and Dies, after Putting out Fire

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Michael Brady, 48, will forever be known as the Good Samaritan who lost his life Friday afternoon on Tunnel Boulevard.

According to the Chattanooga Fire Department, Brady was walking down the street when he noticed a fire on top of Moss’ Place, and quickly decided to take action. “From what eye witnesses tell us, he then took the fire extinguisher, got on the ladder, went up on top of the roof and worked to extinguisher the fire,” said Bruce Garner, with the Chattanooga Fire Department.

Chattanooga police officers and fire crews arrived on scene moments later, and that’s when Brady yelled down to them, to say the flames were already extinguished.  “And he attempted to start climbing down the front of the restaurant, onto the awing, and when he did that he apparently came into contact with an electric service line going into the building,” said Garner.

Brady later collapsed and fell to the ground below, and was pronounced dead on scene. Officials had to call technicians with EPB to de-energize the line, before they could remove his body from the scene. Chattanooga police are currently investigating the incident.
