Storm blows down tree onto family home

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – According to the Chattanooga Fire Department, the severe thunderstorms that rolled through Chattanooga Sunday evening knocked down a large tree causing damage to a home at 1105 E. 13th Street.

Captain David Thompson Jr. said that no one was injured when the tree fell, but the family would have to stay elsewhere tonight because of the damage to the home.

Fire officials say that 2 adults and five children lived in the home. The American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee was called to help the family find a temporary place to stay.

According to Captain Thompson, firefighters put tarps over the damage roof to help protect the house from further damage as the storms continued.

A city inspector has been called in to evaluate the structural integrity of the house.
