From the Archives: Riverbend 25 Years Ago

Over the years… Organizations have come to Riverbend to get us to test new products.. Win prizes or sign up up for the military.
25 years ago.. we got a visit from a national advertising icon.
From our Archives tonight.. Reporter Craig Ehm takes a ride in the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile.

It’s been called the wackiest weiner on wheels.   The WeinerMobile from Oscar Mayer is rolling in for Riverbend.   The weiner jockeys are college aged hotdoggers here on the whistle stop tour.

"People come up and say ‘I saw this when I was a kid.   This brings back memories.   I feel like a kid now."

This fifty-eight hundred pound frank is fast and it’s changed since it first started hitting the road in 1936.

"It had a little bitty guy in there called Little Oscar.   I remember going to see him one time, that was a big thrill of my life.  I always wanted to drive it."

"…and it could go up and down the street singing a particular song but now I don’t know the song.  It was kind of an amazing song…"

"…oh I wish I was an Oscar Mayer weiner…"

"I wish I was an Oscar Mayer weiner — uh — da da da da da da dah…"

"…cause if I was an Oscar Mayer weiner, everyone would be in love with me."

Folks at Oscar Mayer said this is pretty easy, to blow their tune in this little whistle…  Oh well, my motto always says, ‘if you can’t beat ’em — eat ’em!’   Craig Ehm, News Center 12.
