Lookouts Rally For 2 Runs in the 9th to Beat Pensacola 4-3

First baseman O’Koyea Dickson smacked a walk-off single to give the Chattanooga Lookouts (4-3) (30-47) the 4-3 win over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (2-5) (33-44).  The win gives the Lookouts a record of 4-3 for the first half, which is the first time this season the team has been above .500.

Down one run heading into the ninth inning the Lookouts’ rally began when Blue Wahoos‘  pitcher Elvin Ramirez walked outfielder Casio Grider.  The next batter, Darnell Sweeney, laced a single to right field to move Grider to third base. Sweeney finished the night with two hits to give him a Southern League leading 90 hits and a batting average of .319.

With two runners on and no outs, catcher Alberto Rosario pinch-hit for pitcher Robert Carson and hit a RBI single to knot the game at two and send Sweeney to second.  After a Daniel Mayora fly ball moved Sweeney over to third, Dickson came to the plate and drove home the winning run.

The Lookouts found themselves in need of a walk-off victory when Juan Duran broke a two-run tie in the 8th inning with a solo home run.  The Lookouts two runs came earlier in the game on a Mayora RBI single in the first and a Brian Cavazos-Galvez single in the fourth.

Starting pitcher Matt Shelton kept Chattanooga in the game by only allowing two earned runs in 5.1 innings.  Shelton’s outing was his longest of the year and  he  now has an ERA of 3.62 in 16 games (five starts).

Tomorrow, the Lookouts will look to extend their winning streak to a season-high four games when lefty Chris Reed  (4-5, 3.00)  takes the mound against fellow All-Star Michael Lorenzen  (4-4, 2.61) .  First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m.

Notes: Scott Schebler hit his league leading eighth triple of the year…Reliever Robert Carson captured the win in relief, marking his first win in a Lookouts uniform.
