Mocs Ready For Top Ten SoCon Showdown With the Citadel

Chattanooga-(WDEF) 8th ranked Citadel and third ranked Chattanooga were the preseason favorites to win the Southern Conference. So here we go Saturday as the two unbeaten teams collide in Charleston with the winner gaining a strong grip on this year’s league crown.
Doesn’t get more exciting that a showdown with a top ten team right Coach Huesman?
Said head coach Russ Huesman:”No, I would rather play number three Chattanooga versus number 45 whoever it is, or 145.”
Said defensive lineman Taylor Reynolds:”We know they’re a top ten team in the country. We know it’s going to be a good game. We have to prepare really well.”
Said Huesman:”For me I’ve got a sore neck already this week from stress.”
The Mocs defense will be sore handling those cut blocks from the Citadel’s triple option attack.
Said Huesman:”It’s a blood bath in there.”
Said Reynolds:”I’ve heard some guys say that they’re sore and stuff. You know, it’s football. We have to do it every year. It’s apart of the game.”
Said Huesman:”Normally on Tuesday we don’t go full pads. We’re going full pads today because of all the cut blocks and things like that we have to defend.”
The Bulldogs lead the nation in rushing, averaging nearly 400-yards rushing per game.
Said Huesman:”I’ve always said when you defend the triple option that the eight yard gains, which they are going to get, you’ve got to keep them to eight yards. You can’t let the eight yard gains turn into 40-yard gains.”
The Citadel hogs the ball with their running game, so the Mocs have to handle their business on offense.
Said quarterback Alenjandro Bennifield:”Our execution is going to be. We’ve got to be perfect. We definitely have to be perfect because a little mistake here and there, and we might not get the ball back to the second quarter. They hold the ball for so long. We just won’t get that many possession.”
Kickoff is at 3pm in Charleston, SC, and the game will be televised on FOX Sports Southeast.
