Small Business Profile: Elevation on the North Shore
In our Brand news, we like to encourage you to buy local by profiling an area business that offers something unique.
We found it tonight on the North Shore.
If Chattanooga really wants to encourage a community of artists.. We’ve got to give them a place to sell their wares.
And that’s what they’re doing at Elevation.
It’s a retail store offering the products of local artists.
Videographer Harrison Pirtle takes us inside.
"Elevations is not just an art store, it’s a place where we actually create 90% of our product, so it is a place to come and get home decor, to get personal based items like jewelry. What we wanted the store to be is a place to where anybody who came in to it could find something that they wanted or enjoyed or wanted to purchase either for themselves or as a gift."
"We have a lot of range in our products from what we’ve built here ourselves, to the other local artists that we have who have put things in so we could round it out because my intention was for it to be a place for us to put our product out that we were wanting to design, but also to recognize that we wanted to meet other needs through the jewelry, through pottery. We are primarily photography, fine art and home furnishings."
"We redo, upcycle, whatever the term you know you chose to use, furniture that’s usually headed out for the dump or somebody doesn’t want to take the time to fix. There are a lot of items that people see on the internet like on Edsy or Pentress or whatever, but it’s shipping’s cost prohibitive."
"We actually create those items here in Chattanooga and as far as I know, we’re the only ones doing that currently. We’ve custom made a bike rack outside of our shop. This is a very bike riding community, so we can provide a service as well as something esthetically pleasing."
"Really our plan is to grow a steady local client base so that people who know that they can come to us for their specific needs, as well as cater to the out of towners vacationing in Chattanooga who come in and find something unique."
"Pretty much most of our items, the things that we make ourselves, are all one of a kind, so it’s now something that you’re going to see another one of, I’m sure there’s things that we can do custom ordered that would be, you know, not one of a kind, but most of our pieces, that’s what we strive for is that one piece, if you want it, you get it, that’s the only one of those that we have and when we create something else it’s going to be different again and bat houses, I have to go huh myself because that doesn’t seem to go, but that is a very unique item, so that’s part of the joy of the shop is the discovery of the items that we use."
