Matt Kenseth and Joe Gibbs Racing Team Dominate Qualifying at Kansas

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) – Matt Kenseth joined Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards in a Joe Gibbs Racing sweep of the top three spots in qualifying Friday for the Sprint Cup race at Kansas Speedway.

Kenseth turned a lap of 192.089 mph to start on the pole Sunday at a track where he has won twice before, beating his teammate by a thousandth of a second. Busch will start alongside him with Edwards, the final driver to make a run in the last round of qualifying, starting third.

Martin Truex Jr. made it four Chase contenders leading the field Sunday. Joey Logano will start sixth, Denny Hamlin seventh, Brad Keselowski eighth and Austin Dillon in 12th.

Jimmie Johnson, who won last week at Charlotte, struggled in qualifying. He’ll start 21st.
