TDFN12: Gilmer at Ridgeland
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Ridgeland suffered their first loss of the year last week as they lost by one point to Pickens.
Tonight the Panthers returned home needing a win over Gilmer to stay in the race for their region title.
Panthers ready to rock in – this one on there first drive. They give the rock to Jaylen Shelton. He makes some Gilmer defenders look silly as he rolls his way down inside the 5 yard line. A couple of silly Panther penalties pushed the Panthers back. But those extra yards just made this play look better – Stephon Walker catches the screen pass, stiff arms one guy, and turns on the jets on his way to the endzone to put Ridgeland up 7-0.
Now Gilmer ball and the Ridgeland coaches were screaming “watch the play action” before but Ridgeland defense still fall for the play action and Griffin Cagle hauls in the pass to put Gilmer in scoring range.
But the Panther’s defense held them. Forcing the field goal that they would block to keep Gilmer scoreless.
Bobcats with the ball again here – David Smith running for his life, and he is hit hard by Skye Wilson not quite a safety but pretty close. That forced a Gilmer punt.
The Panthers special teams comes up big here, blocking the punt and sending it out of the back of the endzone for the safety that made it 9-0.
And it never got better for Gilmer as the Panthers roar to a 32-0 win
