More help coming to battle Signal Mountain wildfire on Monday

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – 20 wildland firefighters are back in the woods Monday fighting the blaze at Flipper Bend on Signal Mountain in the North Chickamauga gorge.

And they are expecting to get another ten firefighters from other states to help later in the day.

Officials now say more than 150 acres are burning, and dumping smoke into the Chattanooga Valley.

The top of the fire has been contained.

The bottom end is partially contained in fire breaks.

The goal today is to tie together the fire breaks from the top and bottom of the mountain.

They expect to get a pair of helicopters for water drops this afternoon that are now working on another wildfire in Sequatchie County.

There is a temporary no fly zone over the fire area, which includes drones, in order to protect the helicopters.

The good news for all firefighters around the Chattanooga area on Monday is that the wind is light today.
