Vols Offense Ranked 126th in the Nation After Another Dismal Showing Against Alabama
The Vols fell to 3-4 following their loss to Alabama.
The record will get worse if the offense does not improve.
Tennessee has gone 14 straight quarters without an offensive touchdown.
No wonder their 126th in the nation in total offense.
Questions about the offensive struggles dominated Butch Jones press conference on Monday.
Reporter:”In your mind what is the principle problem behind the lack of execution offensively right now?”
Said Jones:”It’s break downs at each position group at unfortunate times in the game. Again, we’re going to go back and have officials at every practice. We’re going to do some things for penalties. It’s just when you play the competition that we play, every mistake you make is magnified.”
Reporter:”You’ve changed quarterbacks already. You shuffled the offensive line a good bit. What can you do to kind of find that boost or spark after this long?”
Said Jones:”We see things in small increments that are positive or we’re making progress. Unfortunately, it doesn’t show up on game day. It’s something that we have to work our way through.”
Reporter:”You did change quarterbacks to get a spark. Is there any consideration to changing play callers?”
Said Jones:”No. Not at all.”
Said offensive coordinator and play caller Larry Scott:”We’re all competitive. You say frustration in a negative sense. I’m not going to paint it in a negative way. We’re just competitive. We know and understand that to win games you’ve got to score the football.”
Reporter:”Butch with the offensive struggles, how much of that is tied to the fact that the running game hasn’t gotten much going the last few weeks?”
Said Jones:”Significantly. We need to run the football. John Kelly is obviously one of our best play makers on our offense and on our football team.”
Reporter:”What’s the confidence level of this offense like right now?”
Said offensive lineman Brett Kendrick:”You know we’re always confident. I wouldn’t go out there if I wasn’t confident, and I don’t think anyone else would either. We know we’ve got play makers. I really wouldn’t say we’re going down right now. We played two of the best teams in college football over the last three games. I don’t think it’s all bad right now. I don’t think the sky is falling. I just think it’s raining a little bit.”
