Hamilton Co. School Board Member Greg Martin to Win Seat on County Commission
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- Hamilton county school board member Greg Martin will fill the empty chair on the county commission.
Martin defeated Joe Smith in the race for district 3.
That chair has been empty since Marty Haynes was elected assessor of property in September.
Martin picked up 10,300 votes to Smith’s 6500 to complete the 2 year unexpired term.
Our Erik Avenier asked Martin about a possible county tax increase in the near future.
“Well, you know we’ve had some great economic growth in this county and because of that the tax base has grown and we’ve..we’ve not had the need to necessarily raise taxes, because we’ve had such great economic development. Uh, that Mayor Coppinger and the commission and others have done, and I look forward to continuing to work on that economic development piece in our community.”
Martin will be sworn-in at the first meeting after the election results are certified later this month.
The commission will also name Martin’s school board replacement.
