Request to limit non-essential water use lifted

Chattanooga, Tenn. (WDEF) – A request for limiting non-essential water use in parts of Hamilton County has been lifted.

Tennessee American Water issued the request yesterday afternoon as a precautionary measure, after a contractor bored through a transmission supplying most of the water for Lookout Valley, St. Elmo and Lookout Mountain.

Utility officials say residents can now go back to normal.

Crews finished the repair work to the transmission earlier this evening.

The utility says if residents still have discolored water, run cold water for a couple of minutes, and it should then run clear.
