Local Shops Offering Apple Battery Replacements
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – “Oops Repair” fixed at least three iPhones after Apple released a statement confirming what many people may had feared.
“They are slowing down the devices in the iPhones and with each iteration of the operating software that they have put out, IOS10 IOS11, it is causing the older phones to thus slow down,” says Oops Repair owner Josh Hrinik
In Apple’s statement, released on Thursday, the company apologized and said they would never intentionally shorten the life of any Apple product.
They’re now offering folks with the iPhone 6 and later a battery replacement for $29.
Apple typically charges $79.
“They’ve pinpointed the problem with the battery because they said that the IOS makes the lag because of battery capacity of some sort..and so by replacing the battery they say that will speed the process back up,” Hrinik said.
You can take your phone to be repaired directly to an Apple store.
There is an Apple store in Nashville, Birmingham and Atlanta.
Locally, Simply Mac has Apple certified technicians, but repairs can some times take a few days.
iFixie owner Donald Sayers recommended people get their phones repaired directly from Apple to ensure quality parts and labor.
He did warn against hunting for the cheapest price, as that could mean a lower quality of battery.
You can also get it fixed at repair shops like Oops Repair.
They charge anywhere between $40 and $60, and it takes about 30 minutes to fix.
