Sequatchie Valley woman charged with home-made check scheme

DUNLAP, Tennessee (WDEF) – A Sequatchie County woman has been arrested in a fraud scheme, involving home-made checks.

And she faces more indictments later this month.

Dunlap Police began investigating the case in December.

Chief Clint Huth says they targeted a series of payroll checks cashed in early November by 33 year old Stephanie Bragg.

Investigators determined that she created the checks on her home computer, then wrote them in the guise of legitimate non profit charities.

The Chief says Bragg then turned them in as payroll checks at multiple banks in Dunlap and Chattanooga.

She deposited $13,461 in the accounts.

Dunlap police charged her with theft over $10,000.

Investigators in the County will file grand jury indictments against her in a few weeks on charges of manufacturing the checks at her home in Sequatchie County.
