Manhunt ends Wednesday for the evening

MARION COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) – The search for Dewayne Halfacre ended on Wednesday for the evening.

And the man has yet to be found.

“I want him off the street as bad as anybody. I feel like he’s a danger to the officers and a danger to anybody. We’ve done everything humanly possible to get him off and hope we get some luck here in the next day or two and catch him,” Marion County Sheriff Bo Burnett said.

Halfacre is wanted for several charges including armed robbery.

On Tuesday, authorities from several different agencies used helicopters, ATVs, and searched on foot covering a large perimeter in the Whitwell area.

“The whole block was locked down. They had fire trucks at the four-way stop. Cops everywhere, Marion County cops, Sequatchie cops, South Pittsburg. I’ve never seen that many cops in my life,” Subway employee Austin Smart said.

On Wednesday, 10 to 12 officers searched on foot and authorities followed leads.

“We’ve had several calls today. None of them turned out to be him, but we have answered those calls promptly,” Sheriff Burnett said.

Sheriff Burnett said residents should still be alert. He said don’t answer the door for strangers, and if you don’t know the person call 911.

But for now, the Sheriff says they’ll likely be increasing patrols throughout the Whitwell area.

“I don’t know if we just missed him or he’s somehow got out of the area. So, right now we’re just going to pull back and work it this way, extra patrols, and see if we might catch him. If he’s still in the area, catch him walking on the highway or something,” Sheriff Burnett said.

Nearby Whitwell schools were closed on Wednesday, but will resume on Thursday with extra officers in the area.
