Dewayne Halfacre finally captured in Sequatchie Valley

2 PM Update: Sheriff Bo Burnette has just held a press conference on the arrest of Dewayne Halface.

He says they caught him in a vacant house just after noon (CST).

He says they honed in on Powell’s Crossroads after a break-in around 4AM at a local church.

Officers found a door had been broken into and van was vandalized.

They brought in the dogs and the THP helicopter to renew the hunt.

A third party made contact with him and told the TBI.

When they surrounded him, he gave himself up without incident.

He spent the week hiding out in the woods.

He told them “was quick on his feet” to avoid the dogs and officers.

The Sheriff believes he was just tired of the hunt and gave himself up.

POWELL’S CROSSROADS, Tennessee (WDEF) – The week long manhunt for Dewayne Halfacre is finally over in Marion County.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation confirms that he has been captured without incident in the Powell’s Crossroads area off Highway 283.

This is the same general area they have been searching all week.

The hunt heated up again this morning with the first credible sighting of the suspect in days.

Before dawn, the alarm went off at the Powell’s Crossroads Church of God.

That was enough for school officials to once again cancel classes at Whitwell schools.

There were more possible sightings in the area later in the morning and the THP once again sent their helicopter overhead.

Halfacre and a partner were wanted for an armed robbery in Rutherford County last Friday night.

The were spotted overnight Sunday into Monday in the Marion County area, and the partner was quickly arrested.

But Halfacre has been hiding out in the Highway 293 area all week.

He has multiple warrants out for him on older charges in both Tennessee and Georgia.
