Highland Park Community Hosts Neighborhood Line-up

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- The Chattanooga Police Department is starting to make more strides as people are calling in for neighborhood line-ups, but we soon came to find out one community has been doing this for years.

“It’s going to be a larger concentration of officers than perhaps the communities are used to seeing in one place and it will show that the officers are out in their community”

That statement was made over two weeks ago and community members are now taking CPD up on their offer.

The Highland Park community, however is a different story.

Olga De Klein says,  “It dates back at least 20 years.”

Residents say that this relationship started from the neighborhood line-ups and expanded from there, with help from both sides.

Lt. Daniel Jones stated, “It’s the lieutenants and the captains that have come before me that have actually been able to cultivate the relationships with the neighbors of the Highland Park and what they been able to do is they have been able to come beside them and see how things going with inside the neighborhood.”

But besides that neighbors say one woman started it all when she had enough of the crimes happening in her area.

“Our neighbors that she, well she passed away. She was the one that really did a lot for the safety of the neighborhood. She was actually the one who single handled would go and kind of get rid of the prostitution and drug houses,” said De Klein.

Neighbors didn’t reveal the woman’s name… but officers in this community are happy that they have a relationship with the people they serve.

“You can’t replicate that and for that to automatically makes everyone fell trusted and know that they feel safe and so having that where they can be able to speak their minds. especially in an environment like this . It’s just only builds that much more trust with inside the community, I wish logistically we could do it everyday, ” said Lt. Jones.

Jefferson Heights also held a neighborhood line-up.

If you would like for one to be in your neighborhood call CPD to set a date.
