HCSO visits McConnell Elementary in Hixson
HIXSON, Tenn. (WDEF) – The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office made a special visit to McConnell Elementary today.
They came to show the kindergartners what they do in the different aspects of law enforcement. Students had the chance to ask questions and received junior deputy badges.
Sheriff Jim Hammond says that it’s important to build these relationships, even with the smallest citizens.
Sheriff Hammond says, “At a very early age, they either learn to have positive experiences with law enforcement or negative and one of these things we try to do is let them understand that you should never fear a police officer. You should be able to, especially when you need help, you should be able to and ask for help so to the kids I want them to understand that we’re here for them.”
Sheriff says that it’s important for students to know what the different uniforms look like so they know who they can count on in a time of need.
