Signal Mountain tables school split talks for now

SIGNAL MOUNTAIN, Tennessee (WDEF) – While Signal Mountain Town Council unanimously disbanded the school system viability committee, the issue on whether or not to split from the Hamilton County School District, is tabled for now.

Last night, council members said the committee did their job and were not needed anymore.

The committee had decided that splitting from the Hamilton County School district would be possible.

Residents say there should be community discussions about this issue.

Dick Graham says “It would be a good time to get the citizens together to talk about what might or might not be good for the mountain and take a look at the educational issues on the mountain, whatever they may or may not be.”

A council member had suggested ending talks about splitting from the district, but that was not passed.
