Suspect flees officials after attempted traffic stop on Cleveland Highway

The Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office shares they assisted the Varnell Police Department with a subject who fled in a vehicle from an attempted traffic stop on May 18, 2026.

They say Varnell Police Department attempted to stop the vehicle on Cleveland Highway at Big D’s Flea Market for reckless driving and failure to maintain lane.

As a result, the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office assisted until the vehicle crashed in Eton on Highway 286.

The Georgia State Patrol will be assisting with the vehicle crash.
