Scholarships for adults coming to Chattanooga State

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Chattanooga State community college expects to be busier than ever this year.

A new program to draw older people back to college is just getting underway.

Chattanooga State has a reputation for designing courses specifically for local industries like Volkswagen and Gestamp.

And President Rebecca Ashford told the Hamilton county Pachyderm club that this will the next step in developing Governor Bill Haslam’s Drive to 55 program.

Dr. Rebecca Ashford of Chattanooga State told us “the big exciting thing that I will share about is our Tennessee re-connect program which is a statewide program for adults to get a last college scholarship to return to college. So any adult who doesn’t already have an associates degree or higher can return to Chattanooga state community college for free. It’s very similar to the Tennessee promise program for graduating high school students, it’s for adults.”

Dr. Ashford says the application period has just opened for that program, and the college already has about about 200 applicants.
