Beer Board suspends Blue Light club again

Police have complained about crime associated with the bar, owner Brian Joyce says he'll win in court

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – The Chattanooga beer board is suspending one bar’s beer license for four weeks.

Blue Light club Owner Brian Joyce says he’s being unfairly targeted for playing hip hop music and having a diverse clientele.

But The beer board says he’s not addressing security issues.

The recent violations stem from an incident in January, where three women claim a man punched them in the face.

Security says they immediately called 911 from their cell phones.

According to City Ordinance, 911 must be called from a landline, so dispatch can ping the location.

Joyce claims the landline is in the back of the club and security was trying to get help quickly.

The second violation at today’s hearing was for running a disorderly club.

Joyce has been accused of that three times.

“I’m not afraid of this beer board. I’m not intimidated by them. Their bias is obvious and they displayed it again today. And when I get this in front of a real judge in a real court of law in March, I’m quite confident their entire case against me will crumble.”

Joyce plans to appeal the suspension.
