Georgia Man Called “Stocking Strangler” Argues Innocence Before Planned Execution

67 year old Carlton Gary, a man known as the “stocking strangler” was convicted on three counts of malice murder, rape and burglary for the 1977 deaths of three elderly women.

He is scheduled to be executed this Thursday.

But a parole board is set to hear arguments for and against his innocence later Wednesday.

Prosecutors say Gary attacked nine elderly women in Columbus in late 1977 and early 1978.

Most were choked with stockings and seven of those women died.

Gary’s lawyers say police arrested the wrong man and newly discovered evidence proves his innocence.
