Blackburn wins Alexander endorsement, but Bredesen wins poll

NASHVILLE (WDEF) – Lamar Alexander is endorsing Marsha Blackburn to join him in the U.S. Senate.

Both are Republicans.

Senator Alexander says “I have supported Marsha Blackburn as a candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives, and I support her again as a candidate for the United States Senate. She has served Tennesseans well. I look forward to working with her to make the Senate a more effective institution.”

Blackburn is the Republican front runner in the race to replace Bob Corker in the Senate.

But a poll released today wasn’t such good news for Representative Blackburn.

The MTSU poll gives former Governor Phil Bredesen a double digit lead over her in a hypothetical head to head race.

45% said they would vote for Democrat Bredesen compared to 35% for Blackburn and 17% not sure.
