Bama Receiver Amari Cooper Leading Nation in Receiving After Two Games
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) – Alabama receiver Amari Cooper has been the biggest beneficiary of new offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin and a quarterback battle.
Cooper’s scorching start has him leading the nation with 25 catches for 319 yards for the third-ranked Crimson Tide. Fourteen FBS teams have produced fewer than 25 completions through two games.
Tide tight end Brian Vogler says the production is a testament to Cooper’s offseason work. Vogler says the Alabama receiver "wants to be the best ever to come through here. You have to admire that."
Cooper is easily on target to break Julio Jones’ single-season records for catches and yards even without an experienced passer.
It’s a huge turnaround for a receiver who didn’t reach 25 catches until his eighth game last season, partly because of nagging injuries.
