Man killed after being hit by a car, Suspect left scene

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Chattanooga Police are investigating a fatality crash involving a pedestrian that happened on Ely Road at 2:00 am Saturday.

Officials identified the victim as Roderick Jones, Jr.

Police say the pedestrian was walking in a lane of travel on Ely Rd.

Traffic Investigators say the car was traveling on Ely Rd in the same lane and struck the pedestrian before coming to a stop.

Witnesses told police the driver fled the scene without trying to help Jones.

They were able to get a description of the suspect and the vehicle.

Witnesses say a black male with a short hair cut was driving a mid 2000’s model sedan, black or very dark in color.

Based on evidence collected at the scene, officials say the suspect vehicle is most likely a Hyundai but the model and year are unknown.
