Chattahoochie River flooding in Helen, Georgia

HELEN, Georgia (WDEF) – The tourist industry of Helen, Georgia is biting its nails right now.

The Chattahoochie River which flows through the center of the mountain Swiss village is out of its banks.

Some businesses are sandbagging while several streets have been closed downtown.

Water had reached knee high levels on some of the streets last night.

One resident told a newspaper that they have never seen the Chattahoochee so high before.
