Georgia lawmakers approve dropping permits for carrying guns

ATLANTA, Georgia (WDEF) – Georgia will become the 25th state to approve Constitutional Carry, or not requiring a permit to carry concealed weapons.

Tennessee already dropped the permit requirement and Alabama just passed one this session.

As the Georgia legislature rushes to a conclusion for the year, the Constitutional Carry bill passed the Senate on Friday by a 34-to-22 vote.

Since it has already passed the House, the bill now goes to the Governor for his signature.

Governor Kemp has fully supported the bill and promised today that he will sign.

The issue has been partisan.

State Republicans have argued that the bill was need to let people more easily protect themselves as crime rises.

Democrats countered that the change gets rid of background checks on people applying for licenses which will fuel more shootings.

The current Georgia law requires a permit to carry a gun outside your home.

To get one, you have to pay a $75 and pass a background check.
