Chattanooga man arrested for brutally killing his pet
Michael Henley, 32, of Chattanooga is facing one count of animal cruelty after admitting to police that he beat his dog to death with a shoe.
The 9-1-1 call came from Henley’s roommate, Travis Chandler.
Chandler told police that Henley had been drinking and was seen beating his dog in the living room with a shoe.
When police entered the home, they reportedly saw blood splattered on the wall.
Police also spotted an assault rifle in the kitchen which set off a red flag that Henley may be hostile.
They located Henley in a bedroom and advised him to leave with another officer.
During a search of the property, police found a dead dog named Cocoa in a trash can.
Henley told officers that he was outside when he gave Cocoa a command and she disobeyed. He then told officers that Cocoa bit him in the right hand.
Henley reportedly admitted to police that he was not going to feed or care for a dog that did not obey him so he decided to kill it. He then told police he beat Cocoa to death with a shoe.
Cocoa was taken to the river Animal Hospital for an autopsy to determine the specific cause of death.
The even happened on October 7th but McKamey Animal Center wanted to file charges against Henley so a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Henley’s bond was set at $3000 and his next court date has been scheduled for October 30.
