Old Hixson Pike Bridge Reopened After Nine Months of Repairs
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- After a long nine month wait for Hixson commuters, the bridge on the 5500 block of Old Hixson Pike has reopened to traffic. The bridge had been closed since June 2021 due to a fire underneath the structure that necessitated a repair to ensure its safety. The route of the bridge takes Old Hixson Pike over the North Chickamauga Creek between Hixson Pike near the Food City in Hixson and the Hixson Middle and High Schools.
The closure had been causing issues for traffic in the Hixson area, especially for commuters to the school complex. There are normally only two ways into Hixson Middle and High Schools, but the closure had been forcing traffic into the schools into the entrance on Middle Valley Road, causing long backups. The bridge reopened yesterday, April 7, according to Chattanooga Public Works.
