Young woman indicted after lake drowning of 3 year old

Investigators say she was driving the boat when the child fell off last August at night on Tellico Lake

SWEETWATER, Tennessee (WDEF) – A Monroe County grand jury has indicted a woman in the death of a 3 year old on Tellico Lake.

The incident happened last August.

Investigators say 25 year old Amanda L. English was operating a boat with another adult and two children on board.

Before midnight, they were heading from Sequoyah Landing Marina to Razor Landing for some camping.

But when they were anchoring, they noticed the three year old was missing.

Bystanders heard cries for help and tried to provide it.

But they child was found unresponsive in five feet of water and could not be revived.

The victim was not wearing a life jacket.

The three year old died later at Sweetwater Hospital.

After a TWRA investigation, the facts were presented to a Grand Jury.

They indicted English with Criminally Negligent Homicide and Child Neglect.
