Ringgold’s Andre Tarver Excited to Play at Wrigley Field in Under Armour All-American Game
Ringgold, GA-(WDEF-TV) Ringgold senior Andre Tarver will soon battle against the best high school baseball players in America. He has been picked to play in the Under Armour All-American game on July 20th. Only 40 players received an invitation to this elite summer affair, and it will go down in one of baseball’s most iconic stadiums.
Tarver will have his name announced at Chicago’s Wrigley Field on July 20th, so how cool is that?
Said Tarver:”Oh Wrigley Field is beautiful. There’s nothing like it.”
Said Ringgold baseball coach Brent Tucker:”Oh my goodness. I’m jealous. I’m jealous. I’m jealous. Just to go out there and walk on the field where a lot of greats have played.”
Tarver’s high school coach Brent Tucker may be jealous, but not surprised.
He knew Tarver was going to be good from an early age.
Said Tucker:”Yeah when he was seven. (chuckles) You could just kind of see it. He’s starting to see it more and more himself. And when players can start seeing it themselves, that’s just when it gets better and better.”
Besides the All-Star game at Wrigley, Tarver will also be working out for major league scouts.
Said Tarver:”Just like another showcase. Just go up there and show them how you can hit, field, and catch, and a run a little sixty. You’ve just got to show them how to play.”
Said Tucker:”You walk out, and you see the physical part. 6’2, 210. Lefty-lefty. Can hit the ball 400 feet. So when you put all of that together. Good speed. That’s a heck of a baseball player.”
Reporter:”What do you hope to get out of this experience?”
Said Tarver:”Just have a great game and show everybody what I’m made of.”
Tarver is made of toughness.
He’s also a stand-out football player, and he’ll suit up for the Tigers again this fall.
Said Tarver:”I’m going to finish out this year. And coach (Robert) Akins is great. Hopefully I will do get this year.”
Said Tucker:”You know Andre has got one speed, and that’s at a high level. We’re just fortunate that he has passion for both sports and plays both sports with all that passion, and it’s just fun to watch.”
