Multiple people treated for burn injuries caused by fireworks
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Multiple people treated for burn injuries caused by fireworks.
Six people were treated at Erlanger emergency rooms on July 4th.
According to Jeneen Carman, Assistant Vice President of Emergency Services for the Erlanger Health System, all six patients were adults and “no children were treated for fireworks related injuries this year.”
Last year, Erlanger treated four patients for fireworks-related injuries, three adults and one child.
In 2016, Erlanger treated 11 patients and the year before that, eight.
“This is the first time in four years we have not treated any pediatric patients for fireworks related injuries,” Carman noted.
Erlanger officials also reported that 14 area residents were treated for dehydration on July 3 and 4 this year, but none of those ER patients were children either.
“Although we treated two more patients for fireworks related injuries this year than last, we feel all the public service announcements surrounding child safety, heat and fireworks likely had an impact on this year’s pediatric numbers,” Carman said.
