Chattanooga Police & Junior League give kids free books

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – The Junior League of Chattanooga is teaming up with the Chattanooga Police Department to provide children with free books.

The books were delivered to CPD officers today at the Little Free Library on Glass street and North Chamberlain.

The Junior League will distribute some of the books to other Little Free Libraries across the city but officers get to keep some of the books with them in their patrol cars to hand out to the community.

Chief David Roddy says they’re excited to help educate area kids and engage better with the community.

“So to be able to have that book, to be able to offer it up, to be able to use it as an ice breaker and then engage with the kids that were here to help keep safe and then improve the literacy rate of our community, its a double win for us and were very excited to be a part of that partnership.”

The Junior League collected 1,917 books to celebrate the year they were founded.
