Severe thunderstorm rolls through Chattanooga

Reports emerged Thursday afternoon of flooding, wires down, other hazards

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) — A CDOT report came in shortly after 3 p.m. concerning wires and trees down in Chattanooga, as well as various hazards and flooding.

Wires were reported down just off Cummings Highway, while Market and Broad Streets had their share of initial hazards, as well.

Other areas of the Valley also reportedly took damage, such as wires being reportedly down just off Middle Valley Road in Hixson, although EPB was quick to jump on the scene.

Arguably the most visible damage in the city came off the corner of Chestnut and 4th when a tree was struck by lightning tonight.

This happened just outside the Hampton Inn and Suites across the street from the Creative Discovery Museum.

The tree being struck by lightning was confirmed by a staff member, although no one was available for further comment.

CDOT wants folks to know that if there is still damage from the storm that has not been reported yet, like flooded locations or trees down, you are encouraged to call their 311 Service Center.
