From The Archives: 1987 country music showcase
We look back at a TV show taping at the Chattanooga Choo Choo
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Nashville isn’t just the country music capital because of it’s recordings.
The town has always lead the way for putting artists on TV.
In the summer of 1987, a new show tried to join the club with a showcase taped here in Chattanooga.
“The Chattanooga Choo Choo” was a music show anchored at the tourist destination in town.
The special aired on the Nashville Network in the fall.
The host was singer Bertie Higgins, who had a big hit with “Key Largo” in 1982.
Our story shows him taping a performance of the song at the old restaurant inside the Choo Choo and detailing how the show would work.
