Red Bank’s Courtney Stamper Gives New Meaning to ‘Monster’ Quarterback
Red Bank, TN-(WDEF) Every game must feel like Halloween for Red Bank because they have a ‘Monster’ quarterback.
It’s 6’5, 255-pound Courtney Stamper.
He played on the defensive line until this season, when the Lions wanted to maximize his talents.
So they gave him a chance to quarterback the team in goal line situations.
When Chad Grabowski arrived as Red Bank’s head coach this season, he couldn’t take his eyes off Courtney Stamper.
"First reaction is that he has got the build of a college athlete. He’s just a gifted athlete. He can run side-to-side. He’s really fast. He does a lot of good things. He’s a very smart football player."
Reporter-"He almost looks like you’ve got a college ringer in here."
Chuckles Grabowski,"Yeah he is. He has definitely got all of the size and everything. He’s the guy you want to come off the bus first."
And since Stamper is built like a bus, why not let him drive the offense at quarterback.
Reporter-"Was he awkward at first or was he a natural at quarterback?"
Said Red Bank offensive coordinator Matt Bowman,"I wouldn’t call it awkward. He was very enthusiastic about it. He was really excited. Pretty much get the ball in his hands and go run. That’s pretty much what he wanted to do."
Stamper gives new meaning to carrying the load, and his teammates love it.
Said Bowman,"Gets everybody else energized as well. You see him back there. It’s always fun to watch a big guy run, especially a big athletic guy run."
Reporter-"What did your teammates say to you when you first starting getting back there and taking some snaps?"
Said Stamper,"They were like, we are fixing to score every time he’s back there. We’re just going to score all the time."
As if Stamper’s stature wasn’t big enough, he also has an arm.
Said Bowman,"He can sling it. He can definitely get a deep ball once or twice.
Said Stamper,"I threw the ball one time. That was against Howard. I threw it to Malik Davis for a jump ball."
Reporter-"Did he get it?"
"Yeah, he got it."
Reporter-"Was it a touchdown?"
Chuckles Stamper,"Well, they called it back because they said it was offensive pass interference, but to me it was a touchdown."
