Update on Dekalb County man charged with 8 counts of child sex abuse

SYLVANIA, Alabama{WDEF) – Roger Harcrow, 63, of Sylvania remains in jail without bond after authorities say he committed sex abuse on a child less than 12-years of age.

Harcrow is facing eight counts of sex abuse on a child.

He was arrested last Friday after an investigation into his alleged crimes began last Wednesday.

WDEF spoke to several neighbors in the predominantly Hispanic trailer park community where Harcrow resided.

According to several people, Harcrow was known as the "old nice white man who often walked with several children down the street."

One neighbor who wished not to be identified told WDEF that his little girl was one of several children who played around Harcrow.

Dekalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris issued this brief statement:

This has been a difficult weekend for the victim and her family. I’m glad we were able to get this suspect in custody quickly due to the tremendous anger at his actions. Everyone worked great together and this case will go to the grand jury soon.”
