Falcons Kicker Matt Bryant Becoming “Mr. Automatic”
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) – Matt Bryant is a late bloomer.
At age 39, he’s become Mr. Automatic for the Atlanta Falcons, a kicker who always seems to come through in the clutch.
Bryant made eight field goals over the last two weeks, including a late 44-yarder that gave the Falcons a 19-17 victory over Carolina. That win pushed Atlanta to the top of the NFC South despite a 4-6 record.
Bryant bounced around early in his career, playing for four teams and even doing a stint in the now-defunct United Football League. But he’s found a home since joining the Falcons in 2009, connecting on nearly 90 percent of his attempts.
This season might be his best yet. He’s made 16 of 18 tries, the only misses coming from 57 and 59 yards.
