Major Tommy Bradford says it was the community support that changed his mind about retiring
DADE COUNTY, Ga. (WDEF) – Five surgeries later, Dade County Major Tommy Bradford says he feels good.
Major Bradford was injured when a suspect fleeing police, hit him as his set out the spikes to stop the high-speed pursuit.
He lost his leg and injured his shoulder in the crash.
He says he has one more surgery and then a lot of healing to do before he will get fitted for his prosthetic leg.
Major Bradford says it was the support of the community that encouraged him to reconsider staying on the job.
He says, ” just going out in a public, people coming up to you, it’s just nice to have that support. They are out there doing stuff and they don’t realize it means a whole lot more than what they will ever know. It changed my outlook on coming back because I wasn’t going to come back. I was going to retire but after seeing all of that I change my mind. “
